Scared Sausage

Despite running considerably later than I'd have liked due to meeting a friend quickly after work last night; i still managed to climb on Kika for a spin.
It wasn't bad, but it was far from great. She got a bee in her bonnet about one of the arena long sides, I have no idea what she could hear or see that I was missing, so we had a few discussions as to her not being a crossbreed llama/giraffe and finished on a decent note.

"There are monsters everywhere" - Kika

Again I couldn't really be mad at her as she has had so little saddle time - to say we are both rusty is an understatement. Perhaps my forgetting to use the quarter sheet didn't help, but it wasn't so cold that she could get away with sidestepping away from the sides when it suited her to be all eyes-on-stalks.
We stuck to walk/trot/halt transitions with lots of bending thrown in. I may have been hoping to make us both dizzy so we would forget the monsters hiding around the arena.

"I swear here are terrifying things lurking"

We got some nice work between shenanigans, and there was no nastyness in she was just wholly distracted. We all have these days so I'll file it away & hope for better next time. ☺

This face could never be used for evil
She was so distracted when I was un-tacking her she had her nose to the floor sniffling around like a dog after a scent. Something else then caught her attention & she stood stock still not making a single face nor fuss about my putting her rug back on. Which is almost unheard of normally she has plenty to say while i rug her back up. She can be a right expressive grouch.

  1. poor Kika - tuff life with all those scary monsters and trolls etc... she does look particularly alert in those photos lol... anyways glad you were able to salvage some actual work from the ride, even if it wasn't the greatest

    1. Salvation is awesome for us, a year and a half 2 years ago it would have been game over before it even began. I am so thankful everyday that those spins are behind us.
Fingers crossed with a bit more saddle time on my part the mean monsters will be lost in the woodwork again ;-)

  5. Not a big believer in ghosts, monsters, or trolls, except when I turn off the lights downstairs and then proceed to run up to my bedroom ;) but sometimes I do wonder what animals can see, hear, or smell that we aren't picking up on!

    1. Kika has a great imagination, bless her. She was a bag of nerves again today, she settled better though bank fully. But it started out a bit hairy ;-)
